JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Communications Coordinator

Start: September 14, 2020

ABOUT THE POSITION

Bay Area PLAN is hiring for a Communications Coordinator. Reporting to the Executive Director and working with our team leads, the primary responsibility of the Communications coordinator is to increase Bay Area PLAN’s brand and capacity to be a multi-lingual, parent-led organization with an active base of Black, Immigrant and undocumented parents, parent leaders and public school systems in counties across the Bay Area.

The Communications Coordinator is a positive, energetic, self-motivated individual with a “can-do” attitude when creating graphics, editing videos and developing amazing marketing materials for PLAN. The Communications Coordinator will effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, while remaining committed to PLAN’s principles of social justice. Additionally, the Communications Coordinator is comfortable with working with PLAN’s diverse members and leaders to extend PLAN’s audience and shift the narrative around Black, Latino, Immigrant and undocumented families and their children’s ability to achieve student success.

CREATING REAL CHANGE: PLAN’S BRAND

Bay Area PLAN has worked over several years to improve our multi-lingual communications structure. When parents and families think of Bay Area PLAN, we aim for them to feel like we are a part of their family. We aim for families to see us as a helping hand and partner to understand a complex, evolving system of public education and the public safety net. Most importantly, we remind parents that they are #StrongParents and that without them, there can not be #StrongPublicSchools. Our brand focuses on staying connected with Black, Latino, Immigrant and undocumented parents via text, email, social media and virtual meetings so that we can work together to #KeepOurKidsSafe.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

We are looking for a person with the experience of being a public-school parent or student. We are looking for someone who knows social media and is comfortable with learning to manage an organization’s pages. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in motivating and inspiring parents, families, and school community leaders to participate in the safe spaces we create including parent meetings, workshops and training programs. They will also thrive in taking initiative and be invested in developing creative new materials and experiment with new software to keep our network connected. Finally, the successful candidate will enjoy working with a diverse staff team of parents and family members who want all students to achieve student success.

ABOUT PLAN

Founded in 2004, Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network (PLAN) is a social justice organization that develops the leadership and builds the power of parents to transform schools so that all children achieve student success. We train parents and families to believe that their voices matter, while we develop their skills and knowledge that will strengthen their capacity to advocate for their children. We build strong school-based partnerships among families, teachers, staff and principals using transformative family engagement practices that transform schools. We organize a network of parents from different cultures who support each other, create a shared analysis of institutional racism’s impact on students of color, and an understanding of the need for systemic change. We develop parent leaders who build a membership and support base of families, teachers, staff, and principals to organize campaigns that promote change- in values, practices, system design and resources.
